The new API web control gives third-party sites a secure way to access Windows Live user data while giving users sufficient permission of what can be viewed and fow long you can view it. In order to enjoy the service, users must first sign-up for an Application ID. They supply this when a user wants to access their Live data and is sent to a Windows Live login webpage where they can login and granted access based on function and/or time. This gives the application a “Consent Token” that contains a “Delegation Token” where it can be used by the application to access particular Live APIs and functionalities. These tokens will the expire and needs to be refreshed by the application from time to time. This will be an important aspect of API in the Live platform stack considering there are many other services willing to leverage it.
